All of the humans blow up.
Assorted:
- The unambiguously straight duo Lethem and Chabon, hoisted by their own petard. Or a petard very much like their own. In their next adventure, Ayelet "Superwife" Waldman tries to off Lethem for touching Chabon more than the allotted amount. [via]
- Free drummer Steve Reid, he of the 70s jazz underground, is having something of a moment right now. One Louder points to a (admittedly poor) Guardian review of a recent Four Tet/Reid gig in London, and Tom Hull's jazz consumer guide at the Village Voice this week gives the Universal Sound reissue of Rythymatism a strong buy rating.
- If you prefer your free jazz with a more youthful bent, you might be interested in what SubPop calls the best school project ever, a high school jazz band cover of a Wolf Eyes song. [via] Not young enough for you? How about these elementary schoolers, who, under the influence of Ornette Coleman and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, recorded an entire album of big band free jazz as the Tangerine Awkestra.
